The Jennifer Hermoso case or Where is the ball?

Núria González Opinion

One ends up thinking how much more damage the “Hermoso” case is doing to the women's struggle than not good, as it is being treated, and if you allow me, with the collaboration of the victim herself.

We have seen this week the soccer player Jennifer Hermoso ratify before the judge of the National Court the obvious, which is that He received a kiss that he never asked for or agreed upon from someone who didn't have to do it, and who later He was the victim of indisputable pressing, criminally called coercion, to take the edge off the matter and would not harm the lord who liked to grab each other's balls in the box as a way of celebrating, nor did his colleagues in the football mafia.

Needless to say, everything that happened was terribly unfortunate.

However, what irritates me most about this lazy thing is the almost pornographic use that has been done by the media that are normally in line with the state government, such as to sell us the idea that all the victims sexist violence in general and sexual violence in particular are treated, both by the courts and by the press and by the authorities, with the same fine exquisiteness that Jennifer Hermoso has been treated.

And that is flat out lie. It is so overwhelmingly scandalous that by giving communicative attention to the Hermoso case, the same networks that have done it have silenced shamefully that the The year 2023 has been the deadliest year of sexist violence of the last decade, that one ends up thinking how much more harm than good is being done by the “Beautiful” case to the women's struggle, as it is being treated, and if you allow me, with the collaboration of the victim himself.

I didn't understand very well what the soccer player was doing. ringing the bells end of the year on TVE, but what I did understand is that, if she herself was not collaborating in the communication strategy that, coincidentally, coincides with the government's objectives of spreading smoke screens, they would never have offered it.

But that fact, I would have cared nothing if it weren't for him. papier-mâché speech about him female empowerment that she became the world champion without thinking about anything, but assuming that, with the example of her case, everything was going to be better.

The truth is that so much falsehood almost gave me the last supper. Because if there was any sincerity in that speech, instead of the official mantra, I would like to have heard Jennifer protest the treatment of other victims of sexual violence that are not of communicative interest, such as, for example, the 11-year-old girl who was the victim of multiple rape at the Mágic in Badalona, who had to flee her home with her family due to harassment from the aggressors. I didn't hear her demand better treatment for them. You don't even want to remember them.

Or even better would have been to see her take advantage of the moment with the highest television audience of the year to denounce the normalization of sexual violence among their professional colleagues, as for example in the Dani Alves case, or the Arandina players, another case in which the rape victim had to put some ground in the middle.

But not. Whoever wrote the speech to Jennifer Hermoso had a clear objective to play the ball game, distracting the audience using his presence and pronouncing the magic word “empowerment", to make us believe that The slogan of the latest campaign of the Ministry of Equality is true, which is the one they have copied from María Jiménez's song that says that “Now my world is different.”

Well, surely Jennifer Hermoso's world is different and I I am glad that he receives decent treatment that all victims of sexist violence should receive in this country. The point is whether she, whoever wrote the speech or whoever decided to make her ring the bells, cares in the slightest or rather, everything was also part of the props.
