  • The objective is to promote the declaration of the Anayet-Partacua Natural Park and for the Roya Canal to be included within it.

The environmental organizations Friends of the Earth, Ecologists in Action, Greenpeace, SEO/BirdLife and WWF once again join the mobilization and information campaign carried out by the Platform in Defense of the Mountains of Aragon. With these actions they seek to defend the Pyrenean valley of Canal Roya, threatened by the union of ski resorts, and ask for its protection within the Anayet-Partacua Natural Park, which has been pending declaration for more than a decade.

The Canal Roya Fest will take place on February 24, at 8:00 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room of the Aragonese capital. Artists like Ixo Rai! will participate. + Jesús Cifuentes (Celtas Cortos), La Ronda de Boltaña, Joaquín Pardinilla Sextet, Viki and the Wild, Furelguti & Krevi Solenco & Manu Haller, Sara Socas, Rapsusklei, Ángel Petisme, L'Asia & Mendas del Cierzo, Con-fusas con Aurora Beltrán (Tahúres Zurdos), DJ Luna Roja and DJ Pendejo.

It is worth highlighting the avalanche of artists who have offered to collaborate selflessly with this festival, motivated by respect for the Pyrenean valleys and the Canal Roya in particular, and with the common objective of its declaration as a natural park.

One more step after the stoppage of the union of stations

The entities already gave their support to the campaign last spring, to stop the station union project that would lead to the destruction of this valuable Pyrenean enclave. The paralysis of said project, which involved denying climate change and destroying the mountain ecosystem, paid for with European funds for sustainable tourism, represented a social victory.

Throughout the campaign, environmental organizations warned that the construction of this connection infrastructure between ski resorts would have an irreparable impact on the landscape and on the species of alpine fauna and flora of this Pyrenean space, especially in the area called the Canal Roya, a large glacial valley, at the foot of Anayet Peak, of extraordinary beauty and natural values.

The project contemplated erecting two frameworks of large metal pilasters, anchored in concrete, to support the cables through which cable cars would run in both directions. In addition, it was intended to build a service and evacuation road along the entire route and a service station would be built at the bottom of the valley.

The Government of Aragon committed more than a decade ago to declaring this territory as a protected natural space with the category of natural park, after the expansion of the Formigal ski slopes through Espelunciecha, which caused a serious environmental impact on the area. surroundings of Anayet.

After the stoppage of the union of stations, what the mobilized population now wants is for the project to be definitively rejected, with the declaration of the area as a protected space.
